Beginner Kids Chess with David Lazarus - A Three Session Program In-Person
Elementary grade kids--join teacher David Lazarus for a series of three beginner-chess lessons using a roadmap he has developed to attain proficiency.
David Lazarus specializes in teaching beginners and has taught numerous players who have gone on to master strength. David fell in love with chess fifty years ago, and has been teaching the game for the last nine years. He has been a strong tournament and club player, attaining candidate master strength. In 2017 he coached the United States team at the Maccabi games in Israel. David has also coached at schools in Millburn, Short Hills, Summit and New Providence.
This program is strictly for kids in grades 1-5. Please only sign up if you are in grades 1-5 and can commit to the sequence of all three classes: February 6, February 13, and February 20. If you already know how to play chess, please note our non-instructional chess program beginning February 27 on our event calendar. Limited to Westfield library cardholders. If spaces are still available on February 3rd at 3:30, registration will be opened up to non-Westfield cardholders.
