The Great Morristown Ghost Hoax of 1788 In-Person
Did British Loyalists secretly bury stolen treasure on Schooley's Mountain during the Revolutionary War? Was it protected by ghosts? Could those ghosts only be exorcised by a schoolteacher from Connecticut? Believe it or not, many prominent people in Morristown believed all this.
But little did the Morristown residents know that an elaborate plan was in place to extort large sums of money from the unsuspecting local elite. While the tale has been recounted in various sensational pamphlets and publications ever since. Author and professor Peter Zablocki will separate fact from fiction as he discusses his book, "The 1788 Morristown Ghost Hoax: The Search for Lost Revolutionary War Treasure."
